Public Library Support (PLS) is geared towards library staff and is required for non-MLIS staff who are not already certified to participate in the Public Library Staff Certification program. PLS is 100% online, and will meet 1:00 - 3:00 pm Wednesdays, October 23rd through November 20th.

PLS focuses on the following topics:

  • Principles of online learning
  • Relationships between staff, directors, the board and the city
  • Communication
  • Public services such as reference and programming
  • Collections and intellectual freedom
  • Technology

Registration deadline is October 9th.

Public Library Support:

  • meets online for 2 hours a week for 5 weeks
  • is limited to 30 participants (waiting list available)
  • has no priority list for admission (first come, first served)
  • costs $20 for entire 5 weeks
  • is offered twice a year

PLS is not a substitute for PLM 1 or PLM 2. Directors seeking certification to meet Tier 1 standards for Direct State Aid need to complete PLM 1 & 2.
